Graphic Design Project 1 - CREATIVE STRATEGIES

Graphic Design - Project 1:  7 CREATIVE STRATEGIES
In this project we learned about seven creative strategies that we can use to develop a creative design and express a meaningful idea. We had to choose an every day object and develop a visual concept of each of the strategies by combining them with other objects. My object I chose was a "screwdriver". Below will be seven posters representing each of the creative strategies and an explanation below each poster of what I thought of during the creation process.
Combinations: I thought of an arrow and combining my object with the bow for this poster. For the title I thought that in life when we choose the correct tools for whatever project we face in life, that we will be more successful at reaching our goals.
Juxtaposition: Here I chose to use the screwdrivers as the fire logs or kindling sticks. I figured you usually use screwdrivers to put wood together so I used them as representation of wood in this case. The form they create of the teepee to start a fire gave me the idea of bonding together to create a bigger flame or strength in numbers.
Isolation: I thought of corn when I saw this yellow screwdriver. So I thought it looked similar to a whole stack of corn and still be able to stand out from the rest. This made me think that there is not only one way to get something done. You can still accomplish your goals like everyone else by doing whats best for you.
Metaphor or Simile: Screwdrivers are used to combine things together, usually wood or metal. Why not food? Using the kabob concept of combining any finger foods you can think of, it made me realize that diversity working together, can create something beautiful. When they are alone they don't look as tasty but combine them together and it looks as if they belong together.
Physical Shape Similarity: I combined my object and the jackhammer together and it looks just like a jackhammer. The screwdriver is meant to put things together and create things, while the jackhammer breaks things. When combined in the New Year, they can chisel away the bad habits and create new and better ones.
Change of Context or Environment: When I was brainstorming this color screwdriver reminded me of a match. I then used it as a torch because it is also shaped like a torch. This picture is of an olympian holding the flame that never goes out. I switched it to the screwdriver and the screwdriver is one tool that can last forever and came up of advertising this tool as "The Everlasting Tool"
Material Change Swap or Focus: I had a picture of a short screwdriver and it reminded me of these small corn on the cobs. The texture of the corn represents the handle. I used a variety of ways that the screwdriver can combine in this bowl of corn. When i thought of the title, I thought of the people that always say, "Oh it's close enough, doesn't matter." Or "It looks the same" when in reality the quality is not the same. So me just having my house built recently and dealing with the project manager...YES the details matter.
